Stranger things season 4 was interrupted in March 2020 due to the pandemic, as was the case with many other shows. Thankfully, production resumed in late September, which means we’ll be seeing more of the Upside Down when the series returns in May.
But what will the next season be about, and who will star in it? Continue reading to learn everything there is to know about Season 4 of the Netflix sensation.
Another month, another teaser for Stranger Things 4. The new trailer, which debuted during Netflix’s Stranger Things Day celebration, features an unusually sunny take on the normally dismal series. Eleven, Will, Jonathan, and Joyce have been in California for quite some time. Finally, we’re going to receive a peek at their new home and the dangers looming on the horizon.
Over a clip of Eleven penning a letter to Mike, her voice shouts, “We’re going to have the finest spring break ever!” However, things do not appear to be going so well. She reveals how well she has adjusted to her new surroundings after spending 185 days in Florida. Her new high school experience isn’t all sunshine and flowers, if the spitball she’s struck with is any indicator.
Aside from the challenges of making new friends at school (and her excitement at the prospect of reuniting with Mike and the gang), the teaser depicts a chaotic cavalcade of series moments, including a creepy doll, gunfights, glammed-up roller skating, explosions, ominous men in suits, a covert underground base, a desert car chase, and much more, all of which promise an exciting season.
During TUDUM, the Netflix worldwide fan event that took place on Saturday, September 25, 2021, fans received a scary new look at Stranger Things 4. The Duffer Brothers, together with actors Gaten Matarazzo and Joe Keery, introduced viewers to the Creel House, a new location in the next season that will bring some grisly horrors. The trailer transports us to the 1950s and shows us the allegedly haunted mansion, as well as a glimpse of Robert Englund’s Victor Creel’s origin tale (more on the casting below).
To the tune of “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” fluttering lights, dead bunnies, and eventually the bodies of Creel’s deceased children appear. Is it possible that Creel went insane and murdered his family? Is it possible that this is the work of the Upside Down? As the action shifts to the current day (that is, 1986), we see our Hawkins heroes, Steve, Dustin, Caleb, and Max — along with a handful of unidentified buddies – breaking into the decrepit structure in search of clues. Is this yet another doorway to the Other Side? That appears to be the case. The teaser has a spooky and frightening atmosphere to it, with references to both Sherlock Holmes and Ghostbusters, and is accented by the ominous ticking of a sinister-looking grandfather clock.
Stranger things 4 release date confirmed
Netflix issued a teaser on November 6, 2021, revealing that the fourth season would premiere in the summer of 2022. “Vecna’s Curse,” “Dear Billy,” “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab,” and “Papa” were among the enigmatic names for the nine future episodes. Then, on February 17, Netflix revealed that, unlike previous seasons of the programme, Season 4 will be broken into two parts. Volume one will be released on May 27th, followed by volume two on July 1st.
The Duffer brothers noted in an open letter to fans that this was due to the fourth season’s unparalleled length and that it would assist get episodes out to viewers as quickly as possible. “Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding,” they wrote. “With nine scripts, over 800 pages, nearly two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice as long as any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding.” “Everyone involved is ecstatic with the outcome, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”
What will the Stranger Things Season 4 cast look like?
Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Noah Schnapp (Will), Sadie Sink (Max), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Joe Keery (Steve), Maya Hawke (Robin), Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), and David Harbour (Jim Hopper) are all set to reprise their Is there any more good news? Priah Ferguson, who stole the show as Erica, Lucas’s wisecracking younger sister in Season 3, has been upgraded to a series regular, according to Variety.
Then there are some that are totally new to the company. Eight more cast members were added to Season 4 in November 2020, according to reports. Jamie Campbell Bower as a mental patient, Eduardo Franco as a fun-loving stoner and Jonathan’s new best buddy, Joseph Quinn as an arrogant ’80s metalhead, Robert Englund as a psychiatric patient, and Tom Wlaschiha as a Russian prison officer who befriends Hopper are among the cast members. In June 2021, four more actors joined the cast: Myles Truitt as a basketball player, Grace Van Dien as a cheerleader, Regina Ting Chen as a guidance counsellor, and Amybeth McNulty as a band nerd who attracts the attention of one of our heroes.
What will happen in season 4 Stranger Things spoilers and plot?
“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which terrorized and destroyed Hawkins,” according to the official season four summary. Our circle of friends is split for the first time as a result of the aftermath, and negotiating the complexity of high school hasn’t made things any simpler.
“A new and terrifying supernatural menace emerges at this most vulnerable moment, posing a horrible puzzle that, if answered, may ultimately put a stop to the Upside Down’s atrocities.”
When questioned about the future episodes, Natalia Dyer told The Independent, “Honestly, the scripts are wonderful.”
“At the conclusion of every season, we all wonder, ‘Where is this going to go?'” ‘Where could this possibly end up?’ Then we get the scripts for the following season and we’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, wow, like, amazing!'”
“It’s going to be huge,” she continued. “It’s going to be huge!” says the narrator.
Season three came to a close on a very sad note. Following Hopper’s death (which wasn’t truly a death), Joyce, Will, and Jonathan packed up their home in Hawkins and hopped in a moving truck with Eleven in tow.
“It’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he’s been imprisoned far from home in the frigid wastes of Kamchatka, where he’ll encounter both human… and other perils,” according to the official Netflix synopsis.
“In the meantime, back in the United States, a new horror is surfacing, something long-buried, something that ties everything together…”
There’s also one major difference: Eleven appears to have lost her abilities, since she is unable to even move her teddy bear from the highest shelf of her closet.
But we’re on Mike’s side. Her psychokinetic talents will very certainly reappear. We can only hope. We think. Right? Guys?!
Then there’s the moment at the very end. While it appeared that the Gate had been closed, with another season (or two) to go, isn’t that the last we’ve seen of it?
Despite a massive defeat, the Soviets are not out of the woods yet. Is the fact that they have a Demogorgon in captivity proof that the Gate hasn’t been properly sealed but has just stalled? Or may Demogorgons create their own little Gates/tears in reality’s fabric?
And we have no idea what the Soviets are planning – possibly an army of Demogorgons?
In any case, one of the earliest teaser images shows Hopper leading a squad through his Russian jail, hopefully looking for a way out.
Season four will “expand out a little bit… not necessarily in terms of size, in terms of amazing effects, but open up in terms of letting plotlines into regions outside of Hawkins,” the Duffers said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“We’re not in Hawkins any more…” said a teaser published in September 2019, and a following trailer revealed that the Byers family and Eleven are now in sunny California.
The title of the first episode of season four, ‘The Hellfire Club,’ was previously revealed by the Stranger Things crew in late 2020.
Now all of the titles have been revealed for season 4’s nine episodes, and they are:
• ‘The Hellfire Club’
• ‘Vecna’s Curse’
• ‘The Monster and the Superhero’
• ‘Dear Billy’
• ‘The Tina Project’
• ‘The Dive’
• ‘The Massacre at Hawkins Lab’
• ‘The Piggyback’
The Hellfire Club was a fictional gang of criminals led by Emma Frost in the X-Men comics, as well as a group of rakish real-life nobles in the 18th century. Meanwhile, ‘Dear Billy’ is most likely a reference to Max’s now-deceased brother, Billy (Dacre Montgomery), who went evil in season three before saving Eleven and the group at the last minute. So maybe she’ll be grieving for him in this episode, and might that entail flashbacks and an appearance from Dacre as Billy?
Finally, Eleven used the term ‘Papa’ to allude to her villainous father, Dr. Martin Bremer (Matthew Modine), who hasn’t been seen on screen since the Demogorgon presumed murdered him at the conclusion of season one. He subsequently reappeared in a hallucination alongside Eleven’s equally super-powered brothers in season two, during THAT contentious episode. So this episode title might be hinting to the villain’s return, or it could be Eleven reuniting with her true adopted ‘Papa,’ Hopper.
And, believe it or not, speculation has begun on how Netflix’s super popular programme will conclude. Season four has sparked speculation that it will be the final season – whether delivered all at once, as is customary, or split into two halves (as per an Independent story), thereby giving us one more season after the next installment.
Matt and Ross Duffer, the show’s creators, have stated that they have known how the Netflix series will end for quite some time.
We want to think of each season as its own standalone tale “Matt told Deadline about it. “We have a really vast mythology […] and we’re flipping the page and exposing a little more and more each season. As a result, we do have a general sense of where we’re going. We’ve known the ending of the show for quite a while.”
Season four (which has been established as NOT being the series’ last installment) will be seeded with the show’s denouement. “We know what the end is going to be like, and we know when it’s going to be,” Ross Duffer said (via CNN). “[The pandemic] has given us the opportunity to plan ahead and choose
what is best for the production.” We were able to get a better understanding of how long we needed to convey that tale once we started filling it out.”
Levy told Collider that the finale is “in sight,” and that “there is a plan,” which would be revealed “not quite as soon as a sense of when season four is coming out, but soon enough.” This is something I can say. No one is inventing it.
Millie Bobby Brown was photographed on set wearing a hospital gown, clearly referencing Eleven’s initial appearance on the show. Season four will not be the final season, according to the Duffer brothers. That, on the other hand, is the type of exquisite circular narrative reference that usually emerges towards the end of a story. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves…
Fans were teased with a first-look teaser of what’s to come during Netflix’s TUDUM event in September 2021, with the gang exploring a frightening house called Creel House.
When will the Stranger Things Season 4 trailer be available?
Although a complete stranger things season 4 trailer has yet to be published, a teaser released in May 2021 showed Eleven presumably trapped behind a door in a facility that looked very similar to the one where she grew up. “Eleven, are you listening?” a voice that sounds like Dr. Martin Brenner, the former scientist who reared her as a test subject, says.
Then, on August 6, there was a sneak look that showed Hopper wielding a flamethrower and Eleven with long hair and a fringe (a departure from her Season 3 bob). Another teaser, named “Creel House,” was released on September 25. It depicted a 1950s family of four moving into their new house.
For a while, they’re content, until their lights start to flicker and a disembowell rabbit is discovered near their front door. The two youngsters then became lifeless on the floor beside their father. The plot then jumps ahead in time, with Steve, Dustin, and the rest of the group searching the now-abandoned home for clues and uncovering an ominous-looking grandfather clock.
Another teaser trailer was released on November 6. Eleven wrote a letter to Mike from her new home in California in this episode. We watch her wandering through her school’s corridors, battling with bullying and counting down the days until spring break, when the two plan to reconcile. There are additional scenes of people having a good time at a roller rink, a shoot-out between Jonathan and Mike, and a scenario on a desert plain with a helicopter and massive explosions. Season 4 is larger than ever, and the message is obvious.
Although the squad is plainly on a ghost-hunting assignment, flashbacks indicate that the location was the scene of a serial murder in the 1960s. A husband and wife and their two children witness their ideal house turn into a nightmare with odd goings-on in a scene right out of Amityville Horror and American Horror Story: Murder House.
It finally results in the death of the son and daughter, with the husband standing in the hallway over their bodies. This character, portrayed by Robert Englund, will appear heavily in season four.
The house’s past doesn’t discourage Steve and Dustin, and their break-in appears to be linked to a scary grandfather clock in the loft…
Will Stranger Things return for a fifth season?
Yes! Netflix confirmed on February 17 that Season 5 of Stranger Things would be the last season. “We mapped out the whole plot arc for Stranger Things seven years ago,” the Duffer brothers stated in a statement. “We expected the tale would endure four to five seasons at the time.” It was too big to tell in four parts, but as you’ll see, we’re on our way to the finish line.”
Those who want to see more of the universe the Duffers have constructed have reason to hope. “There are still many more thrilling tales to tell inside the universe of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, and new unexpected heroes,” they continued, indicating that a sequel or spinoff series is possible. “But first, we hope you’ll stick around as we wrap up this story about a strong girl named Eleven and her courageous friends, a shattered police chief and a furious mother, a little town called Hawkins, and an alternative world known only as the Upside Down.”
HOW TERRIFY WILL THINGS BECOME?
We already know that genre legend Robert Englund will appear in the upcoming episodes, adding to the season’s darker, creepier tone. But how terrifying will things become? The Duffer Brothers’ impending participation on Netflix’s Present Company With Krista Smith podcast, according to Netflix: Tudum, will give information on the next season’s sombre tone.
“We presented it to Netflix all those years ago as the kids are…The Goonies in E.T.,” Ross explained. “That’s the plot of their narrative.” Adults watch Jaws and Close Encounters, while teenagers watch Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. We don’t have the kids this year, though. We’re not going to be able to do The Goonies any longer. As a result, we’re now leaning much more into the terror.
On Wednesday, March 23, Netflix released a handful of new photos to support the Duffer brother’s statement.
